Lamborghini Super Trofeo Gallardo LP560-4 Racing Series: 17 High-Res Photos

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Gallardo LP560-4 Racing Series: 17 High-Res

Following in the footsteps of its Porsche and Ferrari rivals, Lamborghini today announced the “Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo”, a one-make racing series that will kick off in May 2009 featuring a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4. For the record, Blancpain is a Swiss luxury watchmaker that will sponsor the race-series. The Italian firm intends to build a total of 30 cars that will be available for both individual drivers as well as Lamborghini dealer teams. However, one factory car will be reserved for celebrity ‘guest drivers’.

The Super Trofeo race car that will compete in the series is based on the Gallardo LP560-4 with power being provided by a lightly juiced up version of the standard model’s 5.2-litre V10 engine generating an extra 10HP for a total of 570HP which is channeled to all four wheels Lambo’s e.gear six-speed sequential gear box.

Weighing in at 1,300 kg or 2,870 lbs, the Super Trofeo Gallardo also features a reworked suspension, Pirelli slick tires, a specialist racing brake system and the necessary safety cage. The cockpit includes ultra-light racing seat, racing steering wheel and specialized instruments. According to Lamborghini, the Super Trofeo Gallardo and parts package is priced at €200,000 plus tax and entry fee.

The first competition of the 2009 provisional calendar will run on 3 May, 2009 at Silverstone Circuit in the UK, followed by Adria in Italy on 17 May; Nuremburg’s Norisring in Germany on 5 July; Spa in Belgium on 2 August; Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on 20 September; and will end on 4 October in Monza, Italy.

Tesla Lifts the Skirt on 2011 Model-S All Electric Sedan

Tesla Lifts the Skirt on 2011 Model-S All Electric Sedan

couple of weeks after Silicon Valley's famed electric carmaker Tesla Motors shocked us with the announcement that it's running low on cash and as a result, it had to lay off people and delay the presentation of its highly anticipated Model-S sports sedan until at least 2011, the company surprised us once again with the release of the first ever teaser shot of the four-door electric sedan. The man you see partially lifting the veil off the Model-S in the picture above is Tesla's recently hired design director Franz von Holzhausen who previously worked for Mazda North America and is considered to be responsible for the Japanese automaker's new look.

The teaser shot doesn't reveal any specific design details about the Model-S other than it will boast a carbon fiber diffuser integrated in the rear bumper. Speaking with Businessweek, Tesla's chief investor Elon Musk who recently took over as the company's CEO from Ze'ev Drori, said that the Model S will go up against cars like the Lexus GS 450h hybrid, the diesel Mercedes E-class, and the Chevrolet Volt "Our sedan will crush everything out there," Musk said.

Pagani Zonda R: New Renderings of €1.2 million Italian Supercar

Pagani Zonda R: New Renderings of €1.2 million Italian Supercar

While we've yet to see Horacio Pagani's Zonda R in road-going form, a new set of renderings featuring the €1.2 million (not including taxes...) supercar have made their way into the net. Even though the Zonda R looks very similar in appearance to the company's previous creation, the Zonda F, Pagani claims that the vehicle has been designed from ground up with only a mere 10% of the Zonda F components being carried over. It is also reported that Pagani has ditched its original plans to equip the Zonda R with a 750HP 7.3-liter V12 Mercedes-Benz AMG engine favouring instead a 6.0-liter V12 AMG unit with similar output and torque figures.

Baby Rolls Royce PR4 Spied in Dubai

Baby Rolls Royce PR4 Spied in Dubai

We might call it the 'baby Rolls Royce', but truth is that there's nothing small about the British marque's forthcoming luxury sedan codenamed PR4 that was spied here on the streets of Dubai. Rolls Royce officially revealed its plans to introduce a new entry-level model in its range back in May when it released the first set of teaser sketches of the PR4. Though smaller than the Phantom, the new Roller will be slightly larger than the BMW 7 Series with which it shares the same platform and other components.

Despite the fact that it is closely related to BMW's flagship model, sources inside the company have stated that the PR4 will get its own engine. However, since we find it hard to believe that the British brand will develop a brand new engine from ground up, we reckon that the PR4 will most likely get a modified version of an existing BMW powerplant.

The new PR4 is expected to make its world debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show next March with sales following in early 2010.

Simulator Toyota Bantu FIA Tingkatkan Keselamatan Pembalap

Chinese Grand Prix Debrief – Timo Glock Q+A

What is your reaction to seventh place and another two points in Shanghai?
It was a satisfying result because before the race it had been a difficult weekend and we had a lot of work to do in order to improve the set–up. I wasn’t happy after qualifying but I pushed really hard in the race and we had a perfect strategy. To finish in the points when you start 12th with Formula 1 as competitive as it is at the moment is not easy so I am happy.

What challenges did you face earlier in the weekend?
Starting from Friday we didn’t really have a good balance in the car and I just didn’t seem to get it quite right. At the previous races in Fuji and Singapore we were consistent in terms of a reasonable pace from Friday onwards, but not in China. It was a bit strange because the track should have suited us pretty well. In particular I found that I couldn’t get the best out of the soft tyres, which explains my qualifying position.

Did you get a strong start?
It was not bad but Rubens Barrichello, who started behind me, got ahead in the confusion at the first corner. Jarno was hit by Sébastien Bourdais which meant that I made up two places there, but you don’t want to be doing that at the expense of your team-mate.

Did you get into a good rhythm straight away?
It was quite difficult actually because we had gone for a heavy one-stop strategy and, in fact, I did the longest opening stint of all, 32 laps. It meant that the car was very heavy in the beginning and I struggled a bit to warm up the tyres. There was nothing I could do to stop Mark Webber coming past on the second lap because he had 20 laps less fuel than me! At the end of the first stint I had a light car but I couldn’t make the most of it because I was stuck behind Nick Heidfeld. I was only eight seconds behind Robert Kubica at the finish so I think it’s possible we might have beaten him to sixth.

Was a one–stop strategy the right decision?
The goal was always to score points but I knew that it would be difficult from 12th so a one-stop strategy was definitely the right thing to do. Obviously with a heavy car at the beginning of each stint it is quite tricky but I did some competitive lap times and then on a lighter fuel load towards the end of the race I could really show my true pace. On the fastest lap classification I was sixth so that shows we had the speed, and finishing seventh after starting 12th shows we made the right call on strategy.

Have you enjoyed your marathon trip to the Far East?
It’s been interesting. I think Shanghai was a great event, really good for Formula 1, and it’s always interesting seeing different cultures like those in Singapore, Japan and China. But I have been away for four and a half weeks and I’m looking forward to seeing my own front door again; not to mention eating some European food and driving my Lexus ISF!

How would you assess your season with just one race to go?
I have enjoyed it a lot. I’ve had some up and downs; sometimes I have had bad luck. On the plus side I have shown a good improvement during the season and overall I’m happy. I’m two points ahead of the 20 point target I set myself for this season which is very positive. My ambition means I want to be at the top, so the pressure is always there from within, but the entire team has been very supportive; the race team, the test team and everyone at the factory. The team is always professional and has done everything to help me. It’s good to know they are behind me and I look ahead to an even stronger season in 2009.

Honda NSX Based Ferrari 360 Modena Replica up for sale on eBay!

Honda NSX Based Ferrari 360 Modena Replica up for sale on eBay!

Why would someone go into all that hassle and spend so much money to convert a perfectly fine looking supercar like the Honda NSX (sold as the Acura NSX in the States) into a Ferrari 360 Modena replica is beyond us. To be honest, we thought that these things only happened to cars like the Toyota MR2 and the Pontiac Fiero. Between you and me, what would have really blown our minds is if it were the other way around, meaning a 360 Modena turned into an NSX replica. Now that would have been something worth talking about. But anyways.

The Swiss seller of the Acurrari 360 Hondena claims that no expenses were spared during the transformation of the NSX into the Modena. But it gets even better. Here's an extract from the description of the vehicle on eBay:

"For this money you could get a real Ferrari. But everyone can buy a real Ferrari. This genuine Ferrari you can buy only once, as it is the only one in the world. The gasoline consumption is less than half of Ferrari with similar performance, maintenance costs are very much cheaper than Ferrari, and this car has the reliability of Honda ... ( Rust has no chance, in contrast to Ferrari ...)"

Yep, now we're totally convinced that we should spend more than €31,100 / $41,400 -which is the latest bid on eBay as we speak- to buy a vehicle that looks no different than every Tom's, Dick's and Harry's F(i)errari replica.>>MORE...cars-blog.co.cc

Insecta Concept: Taiwanese Designer Gets Inspiration from Grasshoppers

Insecta Concept: Taiwanese Designer Gets Inspiration from Grasshoppers

Design inspiration can come from all around us: a lake, a statue, a tree or in the case of Shao Yung Yeh, even a grasshopper. The 22-year-old Taiwanese design student of the Cheng Kung University created the one-seater Insecta Concept during the 2007-2008 academic exchange with Kunsthochschule Berlin. The structure of the car is suppose to imitate an insect featuring among other things, leg-like suspension systems, which adjust the height of the car in different traffic situations. The Insecta is (theoretically) powered by four independent electric motors located inside a sphere system on each wheel.

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Police Interceptor

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Police Interceptor

We know most of you are smiling at this one, and we don't blame you. Revealed at last month's National Association of Police Fleet Managers' exhibition in the U.K., the cop-spec Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X will certainly grasp the attention of drivers even without the use of lights or a siren. And who knows, maybe an EVO X interceptor could actually help officers break the ice with speed-hungry youths by giving them a discussion point - we're trying to make a case for U.K. cops to convince their superiors that the EVO X would benefit their department... More pics after the jump.

Toyota UK Announces Spicy Pricing for the new iQ

Toyota UK Announces Spicy Pricing for the new iQ

Even though the first batch of iQs aren't scheduled to arrive in the U.K. before January 2009, Toyota has opened its order books to customers and simultaneously revealed pricing for its new minicar. It may be one of the smallest cars on the market measuring just 2.985 mm (117.5-in) in length, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with its x-large price tag. On-the-road prices begin in the UK from £9,495 ($16,400 or €12,000) for the entry-level iQ 1.0 VVT-i manual and go all the way up to £11,495 ($19,800 or €14,500) for the fully equipped iQ 2 with a CVT gearbox.

The slightly larger and undeniably better looking Fiat 500 starts from £9,500 for the base 1.2-liter model while Toyota's other minicar, the 3.4m long PSA Peugeot-Citroen co-developed Aygo, from £7,175.

Partially justifying its premium pricing, Toyota has packed its 3+1 seater city car with plenty of standard equipment. Available in two grades, iQ and iQ 2, both come with standard 15-inch alloys, heated electrically adjustable door mirrors, air conditioning, six speaker audio system with auxiliary socket, nine airbags as standard - including world-first rear window airbag, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Vehicle Stability Control with steering assist (VSC+) and Traction Control (TRC).

The iQ 2 trim level adds high-gloss alloys, front fog lamps, automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers, smart entry and start system, electronically retractable exterior mirrors and climate control.

Hyundai Develops new 310HP V6 Lambda RS Engine

Hyundai Develops new 310HP V6 Lambda RS Engine

Hyundai has announced that it has developed a new high-performance V6 Lambda RS (Rear wheel drive Sports) engine which will see its first application in the Genesis Coupe to be launched in Korea this month followed in spring 2009 by the North American market. Based on the current Lambda V6 engine that was first introduced in 2004, the RS edition features a series of modifications which have increased power to a maximum of 310 HP at 6,300rpm and peak torque to 36.8kg/m at 4700rpm.

Comparatively, the current 3.8L V6 Lambda in the Genesis Sedan produces an output of 290 HP. According to Hyundai, due to the lower hood line of the Genesis Coupe the company's engineers had to shave 5cm or about 2 inches off the height of the original Lambda engine design, something that inevitably led to a major redesign of the intake and exhaust system.

The 310HP 3.8-liter V6 Lambda RS engine will be offered with a choice of two transmissions, a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual.

Brawn: Massa would be a worthy World Champ

Hunting in bottom of its first F1 title massed, resting seven points behind the Chief of championship Lewis Hamilton with remaining of three races.

However, there were some questions about Brazilian the of 'merit of S, particularly after postings as in Singapore when it seemed to give up after a stop of mine and botched lead-with through the penalty.

The pie of pig, although, believes Massa firmly not only has what it takes to gain the title but also deserves to make thus.

I think that he would be a worthy world champion. There is none exit, there pie of pig said the BBC.

It was a little a slow farmer, really, fact it was completely carefree and did many errors early in its career but it was always very fast.

Per year when I worked with him in Ferrari, had us our tops and low during the year but I think that it behaved extremely well. Felipe came on a long way.

It is a feeling made to echo by Massa 'engineer Rob Smedley of race of S. You the 'VE obtained a world champion in, of manufacture it insisted.

Him 's making any line this year. The whole team is behind him and each one pushes as hard as we can.

It continues to deliver and it must continue to deliver if it wants to gain the championship of the world. It knows that, we know that, and we just let us must do it

Formula japan

In a week that has seen one of the greatest put-downs the F1 world has ever seen we head to Mount Fuji and the location of a real (and very wet) F1 circus in 2007. The put-down had been delivered by Bernie Ecclestone, often described as F1's Ringmaster, after Ferrari boss Luca Montezemolo described the events of the Singapore GP as a circus. "If that's a circus," Bernie is reported to have said, "then Ferrari were the clowns."

You certainly don't get the heads of FIFA or the IOC, Sepp Blatter and Jacques Rogues, indulging in such knockabout humour. Though it's understandable that Montezemolo wanted to take his anger out on someone after Singapore and blamed the Safety Car - had Felipe Massa waited till the fuel line was off and rejoined the race, then he would have stayed in front of Lewis Hamilton and might even be three points in front of him coming into the Japanese GP, Safety Car or no Safety Car.

What Felipe should be comforted by is the fact that he produced one of the most stunning qualifying laps of the season to take pole in Singapore and he can easily score three more poles in the remaining three races. What is not clear is whether Kimi Raikkonen can stay right behind him to take three second places.

For a start Massa should stop listening to all the negative headlines about his chances for the World Championship - one single mistake, one engine failure from Lewis Hamilton could put him on the ropes. Raikkonen's comeback from 17 points behind Hamilton in 2007 is testament to that.

We know that at his home GP Massa will be on fire. He's a shoe-in for a victory. Ferrari perform well at warm tracks, Raikkonen did well in Brazil last year, and so Hamilton will have his work cut out if he's less than four points in front as we head to Interlagos. That means all Massa has to do is catch up three points in the next two races...

But having said all that, the likely cold and/or rain of Japan and China will perhaps suit McLaren better. And last year, even with traction control, Felipe Massa spun his race away at Mount Fuji. The race, which started in torrential rain, was one where Race Director Charlie Whiting inadvertently saved Ferrari's World Championship.

Whiting had sent an e.mail to all the teams before the start that they were compelled to start the race on the full wets. For some reason Ferrari ignored this and started on Inters. That reason was because their IT system was so blocked up the e.mail didn't arrive until after the race had started. Whiting demanded they changed to Inters or he was going to black flag them.

As it was, they were the right choice of tyre and instead of struggling round on them to see if conditions would improve, they took the penalty of the stop and then Raikkonen made a dramatic charge through the field using every inch of tarmac run-off he could find.

With rain never far away at Mount Fuji we could see at least one of the sessions run in the wet and that is almost always to Lewis Hamilton's advantage.

Hamilton spent a patient weekend at Singapore collecting points for his World Championship and though he clearly hates playing the percentage game, after 2007 he knows he has no choice. His ability at Mt Fuji won't be in question, but Heikki Kovalainen will have to do a lot better than he did at Singapore.

While Ferrari have a driver in Raikkonen who can interpose himself between Massa and Hamilton, rarely has Heikki been ahead of one of the Ferraris, let alone two. McLaren would have been better off luring Heidfeld from BMW than keeping Kovalainen for 2009. Nick was always going to be a McLaren driver from his F3000 days, but never made it to the full team.

With the news that BMW have re-signed Kubica and Heidfeld there might be a spirit of optimism in the squad going to Japan. Because Robert is only 13 points shy of Massa and if the wheels fall off the Ferrari wagon in the next two races he could even end up second in the Drivers' Championship.

The next big fight is the Renault vs Toyota battle for fourth place in the Constructors' Championship. Though Mount Fuji is home ground for Toyota, Renault are looking increasingly racy and have the advantage of a virtuoso driver in Fernando Alonso. Alonso's unlikely (but not undeserved) win in Singapore made it seven different GP winners in the season, which just endorses the view that 2008 is a vintage year for F1.

Nelson Piquet Junior has three races to save his F1 career, but it's looking increasingly unlikely he'll do it.

The other home boys, Honda and Kazuki Nakajima will be keen to impress in a country that loves its F1. There may be monsoon rain showers but the grandstands will still be packed. A bit like Silverstone in June. Nakajima will enjoy the focus of attention that always used to lift Takuma Sato - and with a new deal for 2009 in place, he should be free to take a few risks. Honda may not have such a happy time, but if they can beat Toyota at their home track then that will feel like winning the race

Formula one

Formula one or 1 is one or the only even in the world for battle. All over the world watching the old battle .the even is big and getting bigger. Are you one of the races maniac

Ferrari target three one-two finishes

Ferrari target three one-two finishes

Ferrari believe their world championship ambitions are still alive, despite a disastrous Singapore Grand Prix leaving them trailing Lewis Hamilton.

A pitstop blunder resulted in Felipe Massa leaving the pits with his refuelling rig still attached to his car, effectively wrecking his evening, while Kimi Raikkonen crashed out near the end of the race.

Ferrari's troubles mean Hamilton now has a seven-point advantage in the drivers' standings over Massa, which means he can finish second to the Brazilian in the final three races and still win the title.

But Ferrari are not downbeat about the situation and instead are now only focused on scoring the one-two finishes that will secure Massa the crown.

Team principal Stefano Domenicali said: "We have three races to go, and we will approach the last three races with the fact we can do first and second every time. We have the potential to do it, so the target is very clear.

"It is not easy, but don't forget that we have faced a very difficult situation over the last couple of years, and we were sometimes able to win, sometimes unfortunately to lose, but the motivation is still the same.

"The team are very strong, but unfortunately you have the moments like today. But two hours after the race, we were already motivated and looking forward to doing to Japan to attack again."

With Raikkonen writing off his own championship chances after his Singapore crash, Domenicali said he was sure the Finn would do everything he could to help Massa win the title.

"I'm pretty sure he knows what he has to do," said Domenicali. "He will fight because he's part of the team, so I don't have any doubt about that.
